The Wii Balance Board

Nintendo Wii Balance Board

The Wii Balance Board might look like a set of futuristic bathroom scales, but it's actually a pressure-sensitive controller. It is designed for interactive exercises and has attracted attentions from the health and medical industries who are interested to know how the Wii Balance Board might be implemented in helping patients with rehabilitation and recovery from certain injuries.

As you may know, the Balance Board is like an advanced set of scales that measures weight and centre of gravity. Stand on it and it will measures acute changes in your weight distribution, allowing you to control a game by leaning and moving your body in different ways.
Just as Nintendo packaged the Wii console with the superbly playable Wii Sports game, the Wii Balance Board is sold with Wii Fit. If they go ahead and continue developing for the Balance Board, will we be seeing more fitness titles, sports titles, or perhaps something else altogether?

Who knows?

Though some games will involve sitting on the board and shaking your butt there are tons of other crazy mini-games requiring you to hop all over which to lots of folk sounds fun.
In a recent Famitsu magazine interview, Shigeru Miyamoto admitted that Nintendo may consider developing future software titles that use the Wii Balance Board, depending on how well the Wii Fit package performs overseas. Namco Bandai released Family Ski in Japan, which includes an option to play using the Balance Board by moving and dodging, and using the Wii-mote for aiming and shooting.

The Wii Balance Board may, some say be more accurate than traditional bathroom scales and though we know we might not always have fab bodies, it is actually trying to help us get there.
